To The Mayor and Berkeley City Council

The community has raised over $85,000 to help Leonard Powell regain the home that the city of Berkeley is responsible for taking away. Today there is $119,000 in an escrow account that should make it possible for him to move back in. However, the receiver Gerard Keena, whom the City of Berkeley requested from the court, is not providing the materials necessary for this to happen and is blocking Mr. Powell’s attempts to fulfill his obligations.

In order to obtain the money from the VA loan for which he has qualified Mr. Powell needs to be living in his house. Mr. Keena is blocking this from happening as he continues to try to be able to put the house on the market for sale. This is a total rejection of all the requests from you, and all the other statements saying that the objective of this whole process, is that Mr. Powell be able to live in his home.

Friends of Adeline is asking that you write to the Court, Judge Jeffrey Brand, Case #RG15762567, The People of the State of California VS Powell, requesting that Mr. Powell be allowed to move back into 1911 Harmon St. He will then be able to receive the VA loan for which he has already been approved.

Letters can be sent to the judge by Email at: dept511@alameda.courts.ca.gov – or by FAX: (510)690-2824. Mail will also reach the judge at:

The Honorable Jeffrey Brand Judge Alameda County Superior Court 24405 Amador Street, Department 511 Hayward, California 94544

Mr. Powell’s team and finances are all ready for this situation to be resolved. We hope that you can help this move forward.

Thank you.
